Enjoy the Lake Safely and Responsibly
Follow these rules to keep Indianhead Lake safe, clean, and enjoyable for all members and their guests.
If you see a violation or have a concern, please report it for board review.
Arkansas Game and Fish Commission laws apply on our lake, with exceptions as described below.
Jurisdiction of Rules
These rules apply to Indianhead Lake and lands owned by the Indianhead Lake Property Owners Association (ILPOA), which include the small body of water west of the spillway and the levee running between Waterview Place and Austin Bayside Drive, the boat ramp area, and north lake.
Rule Violations
Violation of these rules may subject the violator to revocation of ILPOA membership without refund. After a minimum one-year suspension, the violator may petition the ILPOA Board for restoration of membership.
Membership
An ILPOA membership fee must be paid for the privilege of using ILPOA lake facilities. Fee amounts are addressed in the ILPOA bylaws and are available on the ILPOA website (www.indianheadlake.com).
Membership fees are due by March 31 of each membership year. Dues are not prorated for late payment or new members. Dues will not be refunded in the event of a move.
Usage of ILPOA Lakes and Properties
Only the person paying the membership fee, their spouse, and their children under the age of 21 who reside with them, and any accompanied guests, are allowed to use the lakes. Absentee property owners may not transfer their membership rights to another person, sub-renter, or sub-lessee.
Unauthorized individuals using the lakes or ILPOA property are trespassing and may be prosecuted.
The lakes may only be used for fishing, recreational cruising, and paddling. No swimming is permitted.
No hunting or bow fishing is allowed on the lakes.
No motor vehicles are allowed on property owned by ILPOA except for the boat ramp area.
Pellet rifles or BB guns are not permitted on ILPOA lakes or properties.
Fishing
All Arkansas Game and Fish Commission regulations and applicable state and federal laws apply to the use of the lakes.
Due to the small size of the lakes, members are encouraged to voluntarily observe the following daily bag limits to help maintain a healthy fish population:
Catfish – limit of 2
Black Bass – 16” to 24” shall be released immediately; other bass species: limit of 10
Bream – limit of 20
Crappie – limit of 10
Only rod and pole fishing is allowed. Trotlines, jug lines, yo-yo rigs, limb lines, and nets are prohibited.
Guest fishing is allowed only when accompanied by an ILPOA member.
Boating
Each member operating a boat must carry liability insurance (homeowner’s policy or other coverage) in an amount not less than $25,000.
The main boat landing, located off Shoshoni Drive, is the only ILPOA property from which boats may be launched into the main lake.
The lakes are “no-wake” lakes. Boats must not create a wake.
No jet skis, airboats, or boats propelled by a fan are allowed.
No person shall operate a motorboat or other motorized water vehicle:
a. In a reckless or negligent manner.
b. At a speed that creates a wake.
A current ILPOA membership decal must be displayed on all boats, canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, or other water vessels (e.g., paddle boats). The decal for the current year must be placed in a visible position on the rear left side of the vessel.
No person under the age of 12 may operate a gas-powered motorboat on ILPOA lakes.
Every watercraft in use must have an approved life preserver for each person on board. In accordance with Arkansas Game and Fish Commission regulations, children under the age of 13 are required to wear a life jacket. Boats over 16 feet in length must also have a throwable flotation device (e.g., lifesaver ring or cushion).
No person may operate a boat other than their own without the owner’s consent.
Docks
Portions of piers or docks extending over the water may not exceed 200 square feet and must not extend more than 36 inches above normal water level. Docks may not extend more than 25 feet from the shoreline. Only patio umbrellas are allowed for shade or cover.
Requests for waivers may be submitted to the ILPOA Board with justification for consideration.
Floating docks must use UV-stabilized polyethylene-encased floats. Non-encased polystyrene floats are not allowed. Floating docks must have at least two separate points of anchorage and must comply with all rules applicable to fixed docks.
All new dock construction must be approved by the ILPOA Board. Submissions must include a dimensioned plan view of the dock or pier, type of dock (floating or fixed), owner’s street address, contact name, and phone number. If a floating dock is proposed, details on anchorage and float type must be included. Submissions should be directed to the ILPOA Board, attention of the Rules Chairman.
To maintain a dock on this private lake, the property owner must be an ILPOA member in good standing. Non-members must remove existing docks from the water and shoreline.
Irrigation Pumps
Irrigation pumps may be installed only by ILPOA members and are subject to ILPOA Board approval. A signed pump operational agreement must be submitted prior to approval.
Any violation of these rules will result in cancellation of the agreement to use lake water. Upon cancellation, the grantee must remove the pump and all associated equipment from the lake.
Non-members are not permitted to pump water from the lake. Placement of a pump in the lake by a non-member will be considered trespassing and may result in enforcement action.
Pump use should be managed to minimize waste. Pumps should not be operated when rainfall is sufficient for lawn and shrub maintenance.
During dry conditions, when lake levels fall significantly and may pose a risk to fish populations or other concerns, the ILPOA Board may require suspension of pump use until water levels recover. Members will be notified when pumping may resume.
